Suarez has found a NASCAR Cup Series ride for 2020

Daniel Suarez will pilot the No. 96 Toyota for Gaunt Brothers Racing in 2020.

Previously, the 28-year-old drove for Joe Gibbs Racing between 2017-2018. In 2019, he landed a ride with Stewart-Haas Racing in the No. 41.

The Gaunt Brothers team has run a part-time schedule in the NASCAR Cup Series since 2017. For 2020, they intend to run the full season.

Coca-Cola and CommScope will remain a partner with Suarez as he moves over to the Toyota operation.

Dave Winston will serve as the crew chief for Suarez. He worked that role in 2014 with Alex Bowman at the now defunct BK Racing. He also sat on the pit box in 2016 with Michael McDowell at Leavine Family Racing.

“It’s great to be back with Toyota and back in the NASCAR Cup Series,” Suárez said in a statement.

“My NASCAR career started off really well and Toyota was a very big part of that. To have them in my corner again gives me a lot of confidence.”

“Gaunt Brothers Racing has something to prove and so do I. We’re committed to each other and we’re going to build each other up,” Suarez added.

“We’ve been working toward this moment since Gaunt Brothers Racing joined the Cup Series in 2017,” said Marty Gaunt, president of Gaunt Brothers Racing.

“We’ve made steady improvement every year, but bringing Daniel on board allows us to take a giant leap forward. We’re investing in each other. He’s not content to just be here and neither are we.”

“We’ve been very strategic in everything we’ve done, and between our partnership with Toyota and the resources now available to us, we can take that next step and deliver for Daniel and all of our partners.”

A NASCAR charter guarantees a starting position, every week. However, there’s only so many charters available to the public. In fact, in 2020, there’s none available.

“It’s top of mine,” Gaunt said of his search of a NASCAR charter.

“We made some phone calls, unfortunately there is not a charter available at the present time but it is high on our priority list. If one comes available we’ll be the first person to be at that table to have those conversations.”

Toyota Racing Development will provide all engines for the team. In the same way that engines are done for Joe Gibbs Racing and Leavine Family Racing.

Daniel Suarez has run 108 NASCAR Cup Series events without a win.
