DAYTONA 500 ticket holders will get to experience the 62nd annual Great American Race a new way this year with an AR-enabled device through the NASCAR Mobile App.
The new feature allows fans to scan their commemorative ticket and bring it to life through a special DAYTONA 500 video that celebrates the eventâs history. Additionally, non-ticket holders will have the chance to scan a flat surface and place the same Daytona 500 video in augmented reality through a banner accessible within the app. The ticket experience follows NASCAR Mobileâs previously-announced âAR Burnout Experience Driven by Goodyear,â which allows users to experience driving behind the wheel of their favorite NASCAR driverâs car and perform burnouts on the 3D-rendered vehicle.
According to NASCAR.com, the league is expected to roll-out more AR-enabled experiences via NASCAR Mobile in the future âas the league continues to experiment with new ways to engage and immerse digitally minded race fans.â
The DAYTONA 500 is slated to take place on Sunday, February 16 at the Daytona International Speedway. The 500-mile long NASCAR Cup Series motor race is the first of two races to be held in Daytona each year, followed by the Coke Zero 400. The event will be broadcasted live on FOX starting at 2:30 p.m.
