Sprint Car, Midget and NASCAR racer Tanner Thorson has been hospitalized after suffering broken bones in a fiery crash on northbound California Highway 99 around 4 a.m. on Monday morning.
California Highway Patrol officials confirmed that Thorson, driving a truck that was hauling his Tri-C Motorsports Sprint Car, rear-ended a milk truck around 4 a.m. According to a KCRA report, Thorson did not slow down upon reaching a construction zone, collecting two additional vehicles in the incident.
Thorson most recently raced in the World of Outlaws at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Dirt Track on Wednesday and Thursday with a best finish of 13th in Thursday nightâs B-main.
His injuries have been described as non-life threatening.
“This could have been really bad, we have active workers out here [who] could have been easily hit or struck by these vehicles,” Highway Patrol officer Thomas Olsen said via CBS 13 in Sacramento.
Thorson made his NASCAR debut in 2018. He made 11 Truck Series starts for Youngâs Motorsports. His best finish came at Bristol in August when he finished 14th.
A SPEED SPORT report stated that the 22-year-old will undergo surgery to address his injuries on Monday night.Â
