Justin Haley will be absent from the track in Saturday’s NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway.

But he certainly won’t be out of mind as the series’ most recent winner.

The sport is still abuzz with discussion after Sunday’s shocking victory by Haley in the No. 77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet. Pit road and weather luck played a large role, but Haley still avoided several crashes to put himself in range to take advantage.

The Cup Series is back to a 1.5-mile track this weekend. Tyler Ankrum, the 18-year-old DGR-Crosley driver who had to skip races at larger tracks in the Trucks Series early in the season because of his age, won in a fuel-mileage race Thursday at Kentucky in the Trucks. So it’s already been an intriguing week in Sparta, Ky.
