In the event of a shooting at one of Pittsfield’s public school buildings, personnel will have the tools on hand to quickly tend to the wounded.

The Pittsfield Fire Department on Monday announced the distribution of backpack trauma kits during an event at the fire department headquarters on Columbus Avenue.

The backpacks contain a portable stretcher and five kits containing fast-clotting dressing, pressure bandages, chest dressings and a tourniquet.

The kits, which cost $650 each, were funded by a grant from the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency.

On hand for the presentation were, from left, Pittsfield School Community Coordinator Eric Lamoureaux, Pittsfield Fire Chief Thomas Sammons and Pittsfield Police Chief Michael Wynn.
