LONG POND, Pa. – Pocono Raceway officials announced on Wednesday that they will add track traction compound to the turns prior to theÂ NASCAR race later this month.The compound, also referred to as PJ1, will be applied to all three turns on the Tricky Triangle.
“Pocono Raceway will always do everything we can to put our fans first,” Nick Igdalsky, the track’s CEO, said via the press release.Â “The addition of the traction compound in all three Turns should allow for more side-by-side racing in the corners with more lane choice for drivers. In the end, we want fans attending and watching on NBCSN to see a competitive and enjoyable race.”
Specifically the compound will be applied to the third lane in Turn 1, the second laneÂ in Turn 2 and the third lane in Turn 3, according to the release. Additionally, Raceway officials have been working with NASCAR and drivers on ways to enhance to track and the competition.
The announcementÂ received positive reviews from drivers, including Denny Hamlin.
“I’ve been an advocate for using traction compound at Pocono for a while now,” Hamlin said in the news release. “It gives us more lane options as drivers, and that’s what this current aero package needs. I think this will help put on a better show for the fans.”
The Gander RV 400 racing weekend is July 26-28 with the Monster Energy Cup Series race starting at 3 p.m. on the 28th.Â
